Welcome! As a native of Poland, I often travel back to keep in touch with the great European atmosphere and culture. With every visit I am smitten by the charm and sophistication of the local Baltic Amber gemstones. This blog is dedicated to the subject of Amber: it's origins, history, and beauty. I invite you to learn, ask questions and post comments.

Amber Origin

Rays of sun captured....

Unique Elegance....

Healing nature....

That's amber. Today, because of it's inherent and interesting mixture of colors, it is widely used in wide variety of gemstone jewelry and unique gift items. This beautiful gemstone is a great addition to the more traditional range of semi-precious gemstones. It's popularity is growing in many European countries and hopefully will make its mark in the US as well. The most valuable of all types of amber is the Baltic Amber found on the shore of Baltic Sea.

Baltic Amber is an over 40-million-year-old fossil resin or tree sap. The amber nuggets come from pine trees that grew over 45 million years ago in the mixed forests in of the continent called Fennoscandia. The resin would flow into places where tree trunks, branches and roots were damaged. The resin would close up the wounds as its disinfecting properties protected the tree against bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Copal resin (kauri gum) has similar appearance (simulant) that of an amber stone which is generally confused with real amber and mistakenly used in jewelry as amber beads.
